From Interstate 5, North- or Southbound
• Take exit #167, Mercer Street
• At the end of the ramp, turn RIGHT onto Fairview Ave.
• Move into the middle lane and follow the road as it curves to the left.
• Follow the road until you reach Denny Way.
• Turn RIGHT onto Denny Way.
• Follow Denny Way for one block and turn RIGHT onto Second Ave. N.
Pacific Science Center is on your right. Just beyond the Claypool Parking Garage on 2nd Ave is a loading area. The blue door (above the loading dock) is the entrance to the Pacific Science Center office.
In the center of the loading dock is the door to pick-up parking pass and to enter the site (call me as you retu8rn from parking and someone will come over to help you find where we are)
The course syllabus and calendar, assignments, handouts, learning activities, projects, announcements, and other information will be provided on the class web page. The class web page will be updated no later than Friday at 2000 for the following week. Students are responsible to check the class web page at least once between Friday at 2000 and the next class period for updated calendar, assignments, handouts, learning activities, projects, announcements, and other information. Few handouts will be provided in class. Students are responsible to obtain and print papers.

COURSE FOCUS
This course is entirely and exclusively focused on developing critical thinking as a professional practical nurse with a basic understanding of the fundamentals of nursing.
COURSE COMPETENCIES
By the end of this course, students will:
• Define nursing practice and describe basic concepts of health and illness
• Describe culturally appropriate nursing care
• Discuss the application of critical thinking skills and the nursing process to disease processes
• Describe the key components of a basic nursing assessment
• Briefly discuss theories of human growth and development
• Briefly discuss legal aspects of nursing with emphasis on documentation and HIPAA compliance
• Use APA format to reference material
• Access reference material in the library and on the internet
• Work collaboratively in small groups
• Give a presentation in class
• Use the internet and e-mail effectively
I am providing examples of the bibliography project. Examine these examples with your rubric and determine if the students earned full credit. Do not use the following 3 articles for your bibliography, however.**Bibliography Example 1

Microsoft Word 2007 (on open lab and library computers) has an APA function, but I have no data about how helpful it is as it is a new program. Andrew, a UW student, gave Lindy permission to share 2 documents with you who purchase APA PERRLA online to help you write APA annotated bibliographies and papers. See the link below.
